Over 1,900 residents have shared their ideas to help shape the future of Bicester Market Square, highlighting its importance as a cherished community space.

There were 1,542 responses to Cherwell District Council’s public survey, along with feedback from over 400 people who attended public engagement events and contributions made by councillors, businesses and community groups during a dedicated workshop which will all help to shape design proposals in the next stage of the project.
Some of the key findings from the survey were:
- The importance of supporting local businesses, residents and visitors
- The need to maintain accessible parking options to improve usability
- A strong and clear call for enhancing Market Square, while preserving its historic character.
Councillor Lesley McLean, Deputy Leader of Cherwell District Council, and Portfolio Holder for Finance, Property and Regeneration, said: “Engagement so far has made it clear that residents want Market Square to thrive as a vibrant, accessible, and welcoming space that supports local businesses and strengthens community life. The time and feedback shared by residents, whether through attending engagement events or completing the survey, are greatly appreciated and has provided a clear understanding of our community’s priorities.
“This insight will guide the development of design proposals for the square. Further engagement events are planned for later this month, offering residents the opportunity to provide feedback and help shape the final proposals, creating a Market Square together that we can be proud of.”
There is an exhibition in Bicester Library that showcases what the project hopes to achieve, with two events planned for later this month where residents can speak to the project team and view the next stage of the design proposals.
- Wednesday 29 January, from 10am to 4pm in Bicester Library
- Friday 31 January from 9am to 3pm at Bicester Friday Market
