Nothing But Footprints, Oxfordshire’s leading zero-waste shop, has announced its move to a new, larger store within Castle Quay, located next to Bodycare.
Published: Wednesday, 30th October 2024
This expansion follows five years of successful operation in Banbury and reflects the continued growth and community support for Nothing But Footprints, founded by local residents Daniel Ludlow and Violeta Martin Garcia. The new store is scheduled to open no later than Friday, 1 November and will offer an expanded product range, enhanced accessibility, and a fresh, visitor-friendly layout.
The store’s grand reopening will be followed by a Christmas Preview Evening on Friday, 8 November, giving customers a first look at the store’s seasonal items. Open late between 6pm and 8pm, the event will include festive treats, mulled wine, and exclusive discounts, available only on this night, creating a unique experience for eco-conscious shoppers just ahead of the holiday season.
Daniel’s vision for Nothing But Footprints began in 2015, inspired by a visit to a Green Fair in the South Downs. The event – filled with live music, local market stalls, and eco-focused workshops – left a lasting impression on him and ultimately led to his ambition to bring a dedicated refill shop to Banbury. Today, Nothing But Footprints has grown to become the largest zero-waste shop in Oxfordshire, selling over 1,500 sustainably sourced products, including package-free foods, household cleaning products, and plastic-free items for the home.
Councillor Lesley McLean, Deputy Leader of Cherwell District Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance, Property and Regeneration, said: “The use of plastics for single-use packaging is having a significant impact on the climate crisis. But our residents increasingly understand the environmental benefits of shopping for items like food and cleaning products using refillable containers, so they can reduce their use of packaging.
“It’s fantastic to see the support in town for a local business like Nothing But Footprints and their expansion to a bigger unit is great news for Castle Quay and the independent offer in Banbury”.
Daniel Ludlow, co-owner of Nothing But Footprints, said: “This new store is a huge milestone for us, allowing us to offer a more enjoyable experience to our customers. We’re incredibly humbled by the community support we’ve received during this move. Over 40 volunteers showed up on Sunday night, and we emptied the old unit in just over an hour. People gave up their time to paint walls, build furniture, lift flooring, and move stock – we truly couldn’t have done it without them. Their support has been incredible, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this happen.”
Oliver Wren, Centre Director at Castle Quay, said: “The team’s vision for Nothing But Footprints has made a real impact on our community, and it’s fantastic to see a local business thrive and grow right here in the heart of Banbury. Their success is a prime example of how local businesses can grow in our town centre, bringing something unique to Castle Quay while championing a sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle.”
The new store, located next to Bodycare, will feature wider aisles, an increased product range, and dedicated seasonal items, including pre-measured Christmas cake kits – all part of Nothing But Footprints’ ongoing mission to promote sustainable shopping. Keep an eye out for the store’s familiar mascot, a life-sized cut-out of Sir David Attenborough, who will also be relocating with the team.
