Over 175 residents have struck the right note thanks to Music United, an initiative run by charity Community Albums and backed by Cherwell District Council with UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) monies.

The Music United project made a big impact on people and communities across Bicester throughout the autumn and winter of 2023 and the spring and summer of 2024. Participants gained confidence and connected with others from different backgrounds and ages through the universal language of music.

The heart of the project lies in the weekly music sessions, one-to-one lessons and live music events, where participants come together to enjoy making music, showcasing their talents and learning new skills.

With 30 active participants in the weekly sessions, 'Music United' has become a popular fixture in the community, providing a safe and creative space for people to reduce anxiety, make friends, and build self-confidence.

Councillor Rob Pattenden, Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: “It has been wonderful to hear how UKSPF funding has helped residents of all ages join together in Bicester to celebrate their love of music.

“Music is universal and a great way for people from all walks of life to forge genuine connections. It has been particularly heartwarming to hear about younger people joining this programme and seeing their confidence develop in leaps and bounds.

“Community engagement initiatives like this are a lifeline to many, and we are incredibly proud to be able to support their running through our grants and funds.”

Cherwell District Council has been allocated £1,255,946 for its UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The primary goal of the funds is to address local needs, covering, communities and place, supporting local businesses and people and skills.
