Cherwell District Council has teamed up with Anglo Doorstep Collections to allow its residents to declutter their homes while giving back to charity with free doorstep collections.
Published: Monday, 7th October 2024
From Monday, 7 October, households across Cherwell will be able to donate unwanted household items, whilst raising money for local mental health charity Oxfordshire Mind.
Hard-to-recycle items such as clothing, shoes, books, CDs, DVDs and children’s toys in good condition can be donated to Anglo, and the items will be reused for their original purpose.
Councillor Ian Middleton, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, said: "Items like clothing and footwear can be difficult to recycle at home due to the mixture and type of materials used to produce them.
“Each year, an estimated £140 million worth of clothing is sent to landfill, and a quick and easy way to reduce this is to give items a second life. This is a green and sustainable way of disposing of your unwanted items whilst giving someone else the chance to love them as much as you did.”
Councillor Dr Chukwudi Okeke, Chairman of the Council, said: “We’re really pleased to be working with Anglo Doorstep Collections to give residents the opportunity to easily re-home unwanted items for free whilst also raising money for a worthy cause.
“Oxfordshire Mind is my nominated charity for this year, and I am pleased we are able to support an organisation that helps people prioritise their mental wellbeing and seek help without fear or hesitation.”
The Anglo service will be run separately from the council’s normal kerbside collections, with residents booking a slot directly online at anglodoorstepcollections.co.uk/cherwell-district-council/. Once the collection date is confirmed, residents will need to bag or box up their items and then leave them on their doorstep on the chosen day.
Further information on this new service is on the council’s website.
