HMO refunds

The licensing fees are set to recover the costs of the licensing scheme as a whole. Refunds are only made as shown and to the card used for the payment. The retained amount covers the costs incurred by the Council. The table below sets out the circumstances when a refund is payable, and the amount.

Property has ceased to be a licensable HMO since the application was made. Inspection not yet undertaken.

Refund of 50% of Stage 1 fee paid.

 

Standard New or Renewal application

Property has ceased to be a licensable HMO since application was made. Inspection completed but licence not yet issued.

No refund of Stage 1 fee.

Full refund of Stage 2 fee (if paid)

Higher-rate New or Renewal application

Property has ceased to be a licensable HMO since the application was made. Inspection not yet undertaken.

No refund of any fees paid.

Higher-rate New or Renewal application

Property has ceased to be a licensable HMO since application was made. Inspection completed but licence not yet issued.

No refund of any fees paid.

New or Renewal application

Correct fee not paid or not paid in full. Application withdrawn by Council.

No refund of any fees paid.

Revocation of licence

Licence is revoked for any reason after being issued.

No refund of any fees paid.

Overpayment of fees

Where a landlord has overpaid fees, the difference with the correct fee owed will be refunded e.g. landlord accidently pays for a higher-rate when standard rate due.
