Housing strategy and policy

Housing strategy

It’s our responsibility to respond to Government, sub-regional, countywide and local housing priorities. These include the creation of sustainable communities and the provision of decent homes for all through a fair and balanced housing market.

To do this, we work with our stakeholders, partners and other internal departments to develop and deliver effective strategies.

Our Housing Strategy 2019-2024 and action plan are key documents detailing our aims regarding housing issues in the district. It identifies how we will:

  • Increase the supply and diversity of affordable housing to ensure the right types of housing are available in the right places
  • Improve the quality and sustainability of our homes and build thriving, healthy communities
  • Enhance opportunities for residents to access suitable homes and have housing choices.

Our Tenancy Strategy provides guidance for Registered Providers operating in our District. It sets out the council’s position on the provision of affordable housing including the use of Flexible Tenancies, Affordable Rents and the circumstances under which private sector tenancies would be used to house households who have experienced homelessness.
