Advice on grants and assistance for tenants
We can help in a number of ways to improve conditions for tenants living in privately rented homes.
Repairs to your home
In most situations the landlord is responsible for repairs and maintenance. Tenants must let their landlord know about any problems (ideally in writing) without delay and cooperate as much as possible to get the work done. If necessary, we have enforcement powers to require improvements and minimum housing standards if reasonable progress is not made.
We have a range of grants and loans for landlords to help with the costs of making improvements and adaptations.
Small repairs service
If you are eligible we may be able to help with small jobs (such as putting up shelves or fitting key safes) through our small repairs service. Note: you may need permission from your landlord before undertaking any work.
Affordable warmth
You can get advice about improving energy efficiency from Oxfordshire Better Housing, Better Health.
Disabled adaptations
Disabled people sometimes need help accessing and using the facilities in their homes. A Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) may be available to help with the cost of adaptations. You will need permission from your landlord before undertaking any work.
