Terms and conditions

You have applied to us for a “Certificate for Excellent Recycling”. The following criteria is applied when considering if such a Certificate should be issued or not.

Please be aware that we may amend, postpone, or cancel this programme at any time and without incurring any liability to you. Your participation in it is purely voluntary and we are under no obligation to you to award a Certificate.

Whether we award a Certificate or not, is entirely at our discretion notwithstanding compliance with our criteria.

(“you”, “your” [name of business customer) have applied for the Certificate for Excellent Recycling (the “Certificate”) awarded by Cherwell District Council (“our”, “us”, “we”). 

Set out below are the criteria applied by us when considering if a Certificate should be issued.

 A Certificate will only be awarded to those businesses/organisations/establishments that qualify and that are located within the Cherwell district.

Who can apply?

Only CDC business customers who have waste collected by us.  It is only the waste that is collected by us in Cherwell that will then determine whether you qualify to receive a Certificate.

How we grant the certificate? 

  •  Customers will need to apply for a Certificate.
  •  Applications will be reviewed and if approved, a certificate will be awarded.  New customer may be offered the award if they qualify.

Criteria Governing the Award of a Certificate

  • 50 per cent or higher of the total waste collected by us needs to be recyclable waste – see below.
  • The capacity is measured by bin size in litres.   Recyclable waste is as follows:
  • Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR),
  • Mixed Glass, Food Waste and Garden Waste.
  • For example: (i.e. customer has 1100 litres General Waste and 660 litres DMR, 360 Mixed Glass, 2 x 140 Food Waste = 1300 litres recyclable waste.  Total collected waste is 2400 litres = 54% recyclable waste) The Customer is therefore eligible to be awarded a Certificate.

 Rescinding or revoking a Certificate

  • If the total of the recycling waste collected falls below 50 per cent, the Certificate may be revoked.
  • If the customer’s business waste contract is terminated by the customer or the council, the Certificate will automatically be revoked.

Logo and pictures

  • The Certificate, logo and/or images relating to Certificate for Excellent Recycling and the copyright all other rights relating thereto are and remain our property and may be used for marketing/advertising purposes or otherwise by the customer only after our express approval in writing has been obtained for the specific use.
  • By applying for the Certificate, customer agrees that we may use photos and pictures on social media.
  • A Certificate may be used within your business property for display purposes as well as your own social media/website unless it has been revoked or rescinded.  If a Certificate is revoked or rescinded, you must immediately cease to use it and delete any image of it from any media

Personal data

  • We will hold and process personal data only as is necessary to provide this award to you. In agreeing to this award, you are also giving us permission to process your personal data and to share it with third parties to provide this award to you. We will ensure that we comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation in processing your personal data. More information about how we use your personal data can be found in our privacy policy and privacy notice on our website.
  • You must inform us of any changes to your personal data.

Changes to these criteria

We reserve the right to vary any of these criteria will publicise all variations on our website.

Please note:  The award of a Certificate is purely at our discretion and notwithstanding your compliance with the criteria set out herein does not give you any right to be awarded a Certificate. Certificates must be returned to us on request.
