Cherwell District Council is producing a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the regeneration of the Canalside site in Banbury. The site is located between the railway station and the town centre and is allocated for new homes in the Cherwell Local Plan 2011 to 2031. This is a long term plan that will involve collaboration between the Council, businesses, land owners, other organisations and the local community.
Draft Supplementary Planning Document SPD (2009)
In 2009 the Council produced a draft SPD for public consultation.
- Canalside draft SPD consultation (November 2009)
- Canalside draft companion document (November 2009)
- Canalside Statement of SPD matters (November 2009)
- Canalside Consultation Leaflet (November 2009)
- Canalside Viability Study (September 2013)
Banbury Canalside Questionnaire (2018)
A revised SPD is now being produced. The document will contain a masterplan and requirements for any future planning applications for the site. In January 2018 a questionnaire, including an online version, was published for public consultation seeking people’s views on how regeneration could be achieved on the site. This was accompanied by a booklet providing further information. This consultation is now closed.
Drop in sessions were also held for land owners, businesses and residents on the site during the consultation.
The comments received will inform a revised Supplementary Planning Document which will be published for public consultation later in the year.
