Rates of Pay
The rates of pay vary depending on the job role and the type of poll.
• Polling station staff are paid a flat rate, a training fee and mileage at HMRC rates
• Verification/count staff are paid a hourly rate and mileage at HMRC rates
• Postal vote openers are paid an hourly rate. No mileage is paid.
All fees are subject to tax. Elections are usually held in May, with payment for working being made directly into your bank account in June. Exact arrangements will be advised before each election.
